Monocycle: A Couple Letters Off PDF Print E-mail

File this under "Close Enough."

The hash-addled Dutch have come up with a revolutionary mode of transportation called The WTF: The Big Round Thing With An Engine. Actually, the real name is The Motorized Monocycle. Sporting a 31cc, four-stroke 1 1/2-hp engine, this ultra-modern cycle won't be leaving smoke but at least it will run for a couple hours on a half-tank of gas. You've got to weight in at over 110lbs to operate the Wonder Wheel and the weight limit maxes out at 275lbs. Brake and gas controls are on the handle bars. Max Speed: 25mph. Max Benefit: Unclear. Buy one? Sure.

(Editor's note: I cannot believe that I can't find video of Richard Pryor's awesome Wonder Wheel scene from The Toy)

There's a great debate going on over at Sportbikes.net. Basically, the question is: Why Are Ducati's (sic) So Expensive? Of course, you have some folks touting performance, others swearing reliability (?) and all the usual fan-boy standards.

One guy nails the real reason.

Dunlop Roadsmart tires

Dunlop has worked hard on the development of its Roadsmart sport touring tire and after a day of testing the rubber during a deluged day in Malibu, CA, we came away impressed with its effort. The goal was to create a sport-touring tire that features class-leading handling in dry conditions, excellent wet weather performance and the durability demanded by long-haul riders.

Boots

We've said it before and we'll say it again: For cash-strapped riderslooking to save money on gear, high-top sneakers make passable ridingboots. Not canvas Keds, mind you, but leather (or leather-like)basketball sneakers with padded ankles. That observation hasn't beenlost on today's Street Extreme riders, which is where Alpinestars'Stunt boots come in.

I've only had my 2007 650 V-Strom a month or so now, but after riding and reading all that is published on this Suzuki wundercycle, it's hard to be modest. I mean, when you hear of Beemer F650 and GS riders opting for a brandy new V-Strom and praise it's lighter weight, linear power and torque, low maintenance, high reliability, uh... do you see what I mean? Once you get started it's hard to stop telling the world what you've found.
